Australia's clinical research workforce plays a vital role in delivering high-quality research that improves healthcare and patient outcomes. There is currently no professional standard specific to this workforce. While a number of competency frameworks are used across Australia, variations between organisations can create inconsistencies in training quality, and difficulty in transferring job roles across different organisations.
To help address this challenge, NSW Health is leading a national Delphi consensus study with researchers from UNSW and the University of Sydney. The Inter-Governmental Policy Reform Group, through its program of national reforms and prioritisation of a strong clinical research workforce, has endorsed the project.
The study will bring together people from across Australia through an Expert Panel and a Workforce User and Consumer Panels. Through a Delphi consensus process, participants will determine agreement on a suitable competency framework for employing appropriately skilled people to clinical research roles in Australia.
