The Community of Practice and Mentoring Program is a key initiative within the MRFF-funded Rural, Regional and Remote Clinical Trials Enabling Program, jointly supported by NSW Health and the ACT Government. Its purpose is to strengthen the clinical trials workforce in rural, regional, and remote areas by promoting professional development, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
Recently, we reached important milestones on two major components of the initiative, marking a significant step forward in building capability and connections across the sector.
Community of Practice (CoP) – The CoP for clinical trial coordinators and research nurses working across rural, regional, and remote areas of NSW and the ACT held their first meeting on 15 October 2025, marking an exciting step towards building stronger connections and collaboration across the clinical trials workforce.
This new initiative provides a dedicated space for professionals working within clinical trials in rural, regional and remote communities to share knowledge, strengthen capability and access peer support. Members from across the state and territory came together for a dynamic and engaging session.
Highlights included:
- a workshop on the Isolated Patients Travel and Accommodation Assistance Scheme (IPTAAS) and how it supports patient access to clinical trials
- an introduction to the Research Handbook, a practical resource for trial delivery
- our first member presentation, featuring a discussion on safety reporting and real-world case studies that sparked valuable peer learning.
The CoP will grow into a vibrant network for shared learning, professional development and connection across the rural, regional and remote clinical trials workforce.
Mentoring Program – A dedicated mentoring program for Clinical Trial Coordinators and Research Nurses working in rural, regional and remote NSW and ACT has recently launched.
The program is designed to support career development, confidence and connection by pairing participants with experienced mentors in the clinical trial sector.
Highlights:
- tailored guidance and support from mentors with clinical trial expertise
- opportunities to build professional networks and share knowledge across regions
- a structured framework to foster growth, leadership, and retention in the sector.
Whether you’re new to clinical trials or ready to take the next step in your career, the Mentoring Program offers a supportive and collaborative pathway for professional.
